Resorts World Sentosa kick-starts build on US$5bn ‘mountain’ of lifestyle experiences
A spectacular US$5bn expansion has got underway at Genting Singapore’s Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) in Singapore as the property looks to reenergise its appeal to international tourists.
Dubbed a ‘mountain’ of lifestyle experiences, the huge project was launched on Friday 15 with a waterfront promenade, a four-storey retail and entertainment complex, along with two luxury hotels adding 700 rooms to its existing portfolio. It is set to open by 2030
Genting Singapore CEO Tan Hee Teck said: “This upcoming development project is like no other before it in Singapore or the region and will be a must-visit in the global tourism landscape. This striking structure will be set within a generous open waterfront park that will revitalise Singapore’s skyline”
The centerpiece will be an 88m-tall light sculpture and an ‘immersive, experiential mountain trail’ that will take visitors up to a ‘summit with panoramic views of the Greater Southern Waterfront and Singapore’s Central Business District. The project will also include attractions such as a Harry Potter interactive art experience, debuting in November, and a Minion Land theme park at Universal Studios Singapore in early 2025.
Singapore’s Minister of State for Trade and Industry Alvin Tan, said: “The new waterfront lifestyle development is a key feature of RWS’ expansion and an exciting new addition to Singapore’s vibrant tourism landscape. I look forward to its completion and the unique experiences it will offer to both international and local visitors.”
In other news, Genting confirmed it had had its casino licence at Resorts World Sentosa renewed.
It stated: “Genting Singapore Limited wishes to announce that the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Singapore has renewed Resorts World Sentosa’s casino license under Section 49 of the Casino Control Act for another two years with effect from February 6, 2025.”
“The GRA has assessed RWS to be suitable to manage and operate the casino under Section 45 of the CCA. The renewal was granted by the Authority after taking into account all of the factors under Section 45, including the Evaluation Panel’s opinion on RWS’ ability to develop, maintain and promote the integrated resort as a compelling tourist destination. The Evaluation Panel had considered the evaluation
period from 2021 to 2023.”
“The tourism industry in Singapore in general, including RWS, faced very significant challenges during this evaluation period which coincided with the global pandemic. RWS continues to accelerate its transformation to refresh and rejuvenate existing offerings to deepen its destination appeal and visitor experiences. With its RWS2.0 expansion plans underway, RWS is dedicated to maintaining its status as the premier lifestyle tourism destination.”
