Dutch tax increase takes its first closures with JVH Gaming to shut 23 venues
The increase in gaming tax in the Netherlands has taken its first casualties with JVH Gaming & Entertainment, the operating force behind Jack’s Casino, Flash Casino, and Flamingo Casino, confirming it will close 23 of its 87 gambling halls due to ‘significantly increased regulatory pressure.’
The operator stated: “The upcoming increase in gambling tax will impact JVH Gaming heavily and structurally. The directors have had to conclude that almost 30 percent of the branches are not viable anymore.”
The Dutch government approved a gambling tax increase of 7.3 per cent, which some operators claimed was ‘irresponsible,’ with Holland Casino saying its tax burden would be almost 50 per cent. Holland Casino is being forced to close its branch in Zandvoort in February 2025
JVH Gaming also highlighted rising costs, including higher interest rates, higher energy bills, increases in minimum wage, and the negative impact of higher inflation.
The closures will affect almost 50 per cent of the 40 Flash Casino branded venues whilst the Flamingo Casino brand will cease to exist completely.
JVH added: “We are still speaking with the relevant employees, and we would like to conduct personal conversations first before we make any announcements regarding this. This is why we unfortunately cannot provide any numbers as of yet.”
