Apostolopoulos family advances Durham Live vision
Ontario’s Apostolopoulos family has secured a major zoning reclassification for the Durham Live site near Pickering Casino Resort, paving the way for expanded entertainment, retail and tourism developments.
The Apostolopoulos family’s long-term plan to transform part of Ontario’s Durham region in Canada into a large-scale entertainment district has taken a significant step forward after land near the Pickering Casino Resort was reclassified as a major tourist destination.
The zoning change enables new anchor attractions at the Durham Live development, including the flagship Canadian location for Launchpad Golf, a year-round driving range and entertainment venue. A Porsche test track opened on the site in June, allowing customers to drive performance vehicles on a dedicated two-kilometre circuit.
These additions join an expanding mix of amenities already in operation, including the casino, hotel, retail district and a 2,500-seat performance venue. Future plans include a waterpark and film studios as the developers continue to position Durham Live as a multi-faceted tourism and leisure hub.
Beyond the entertainment complex, brothers Steve, Peter and Jim Apostolopoulos control a substantial commercial real estate portfolio through the Triple Group of Companies, founded by their late father, Andreas. The family’s combined interests span real estate, hospitality and entertainment, contributing to a reported net worth of $9.6bn.
