Freedom Plaza team provides briefing on New York casino application
Freedom Plaza, a transformative $11bn plan for Midtown Manhattan, will be unveiled in a private media briefing on Thursday, June 26 at 2:00 PM at 9 West 57th Street, New York.
Being submitted this week as part of New York State’s downstate casino licensing process, the more than 900-page application outlines the most comprehensive vision for inclusive development in Manhattan — featuring more affordable housing units than any other proposal and the borough’s only plan to incorporate public green space.
Michael Hershman, CEO of Soloviev Group will unveil the sweeping vision and scale of Freedom Plaza, highlighting its transformational impact on Midtown East. He’ll also speak to Soloviev’s deep-rooted commitment to the neighborhood and its future.
Ray Pineault, CEO of Mohegan, will spotlight Mohegan’s experience in the region and its long-standing dedication to being a responsible, community-focused partner. He’ll also offer a preview of the guest experience.
Dan Biederman, President, Biederman Redevelopment Ventures, will draw on his experience with Bryant Park and Grand Central Partnership to illustrate how Freedom Plaza will reimagine public space for the community. He’ll emphasize how the project aligns with local revitalization goals and is grounded in genuine community engagement.
Jamie Smarr, President, NYC Housing Partnership, will highlight the historic housing investment at Freedom Plaza, and the importance of affordable housing at a time when policymakers are struggling to meet the demands of New York residents, particularly working people across the city.
Located from 38th to 41st Street east of First Avenue, Freedom Plaza will feature two residential towers with housing that working people can afford; 4.7 acres of accessible public green space; locally-oriented retail and dining; a daycare center; a museum dedicated to democracy and community center; and two world-class hotels, including the option of modern gaming for those 21-and-over.
It has already got strong backing from a coalition of 26 New York labour organisations and workforce development partners for Freedom Plaza, the visionary new 6.3-acre civic and cultural plan for Manhattan’s East Side.
