WarHorse Omaha Casino opens in Nebraska
WarHorse Omaha Casino has now opened its doors at Horsemen’s Park in Omaha, Nebraska’s largest city with a ceremonial ribbon cutting attended by officials including Lance Morgan, CEO of WarHorse Gaming; Garald Wollesen, President of the Nebraska Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association; and Denny Lee, Chairman of the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission.
The $250m casino and racetrack was built by the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska in partnership with the Nebraska Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association.
The initial opening of WarHorse Omaha Casino sees the unveiling of a 58,000-square-foot facility featuring 800 slot machines, 19 live table games, and 100 simulcast screens. The second phase will see the addition of 400 more gaming positions, a smoking area, and more dining options by next spring.
Lance Morgan, CEO of WarHorse Gaming, said: “Our mission as a company is to create self-sufficiency for the tribe and job opportunities, and this checks two of those boxes. We’re going to have 400 and some employees on the first day. At some point, we’ll get up to about 800 here. It’s pretty surreal, we’ve been working on it for 5 years and to actually get to the point where you leave the planning and actually open the doors and let customers in, it’s pretty exciting.”
Lynn McNally, CEO of Nebraska Horseman’s Association, added: “We own the building, we also own Lincoln; and what we’re doing is we our share of the revenue is we’re building barns in Lincoln. We’re increasing purses, and we’re increasing live days. 70 per cent of all the revenue for taxes goes directly to the property tax relief fund and can’t be spent any other way.”
